LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide
We stock, diagnose, and install LiftMaster-compatible keypads and intercom modules across West Palm Beach, with most repairs running between $165 and $485 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad, the intercom board, or both. Same-day service is available for keypad failures, and we carry the common LiftMaster 877MAX, 877LM, and intercom retrofit parts on the truck. Most owners discover the problem the same way: the keypad works intermittently for a month, then stops accepting the code entirely, right around the first heavy rain or humidity spike.
What makes LiftMaster keypads different from other brands is the Security+ 2.0 rolling-code protocol. An older 877LM keypad won’t talk to a newer Security+ 2.0 opener, and a newer 877MAX won’t pair with a pre-2011 receiver. This single compatibility detail causes more misdiagnosed “dead keypads” in West Palm Beach than any actual component failure we see. If you’re standing at the gate with a keypad that lights up but won’t trigger the motor, the problem is often a protocol mismatch, not the keypad itself.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
LiftMaster has three keypad families that turn up in West Palm Beach driveways. The 877LM is the older 315 MHz fixed-code keypad, discontinued but still common on gates installed before 2012. The 877MAX covers Security+ 2.0 systems from 2012 onward and is the current standard. The KPR2000 is the hardwired commercial-style keypad we see on condominium gates and HOA entries along Flagler Drive. Intercom modules fall into two groups: the classic CM series telephone-entry units and the newer CAPXL cellular entry systems. Each uses a different power supply, a different wiring harness, and a different programming sequence.
The OEM route is straightforward: LiftMaster parts carry a one-to-three year limited warranty and are guaranteed to pair correctly when the model matches. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for keypads, mainly from Linear and Nortek, but we’re careful here. An aftermarket keypad on a LiftMaster operator will often work fine for basic open/close commands, but features like tamper alerts, partition control, and some multi-gate setups won’t carry over. For intercom boards, we recommend OEM every time. The aftermarket boards we’ve tested in Florida humidity fail too quickly at the solder joints.
Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

- Keypad lights up but the gate doesn’t move. The most common cause is protocol mismatch between the keypad and receiver. The next most common is a corroded relay inside the keypad that clicks but no longer passes current.
- Works in the morning, dead by afternoon. This is classic Florida heat expansion. The solder joints on the keypad board flex as the housing warms in direct sun, and a hairline crack opens until the temperature drops.
- Guest codes erase themselves after a power blip. The memory capacitor on the keypad board is failing. It’s supposed to hold programming for 72 hours without power. When it degrades, codes vanish on any momentary outage.
- Intercom audio is scratchy or one-way. On CM-series units, this is usually the microphone element or the speaker cone degrading from humidity. On CAPXL units, it’s typically a failing power supply capacitor feeding the audio circuit.
- Call button rings the house but nobody can hear you. The intercom’s audio transformer or the wiring between the gate station and the house handset has a broken conductor. We test both before recommending a board replacement.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
| Repair Type | Typical Installed Range (West Palm Beach) |
|---|---|
| Wireless keypad replacement (877MAX or equivalent) | $165 - $240 |
| Hardwired keypad replacement (KPR2000-style) | $285 - $385 |
| Intercom board repair (CM-series) | $220 - $340 |
| Intercom module replacement (CAPXL cellular) | $410 - $485 |
| Keypad + intercom combined retrofit | $350 - $650 |
The range depends on what we find when we open the housing. A clean keypad swap with intact wiring lands at the bottom of the range. A keypad that’s been water-damaged usually needs the wiring pigtail replaced too, which pushes the labor up. Every price is written and handed to you before we start work, under Haven Standard Clause 1, and the quote includes the part, the labor, and the programming. No separate trip charge once we’re on site.

Keypads and intercom modules are low-voltage components. There’s no meaningful shock hazard like you’d face with a gate motor capacitor or a high-tension spring. That said, the failure mode that ends up costing the most isn’t electrical, it’s water. The keypad housing gasket is the first thing to go in Florida, and if you open the unit to inspect it and don’t reseat the gasket correctly, you’ve just created a leak that will kill the new board in six months. We’ve also seen homeowners wire a new keypad backward and smoke the operator’s control board, which turns a $200 job into a $600 one.
What you can safely check: confirm the model number on the back of the keypad, verify the opener’s model year, and note whether other remotes still work. That’s the diagnostic information we need first. If you’ve done that and the keypad still won’t cooperate, call (561) 725-8048 and we’ll bring the right part the first time. We’ll tell you what we found, what it takes to fix it, and what you’ll have when we leave.
FAQs
In our experience, the original keypad on a gate near the Intracoastal or any unshaded southwest-facing entry lasts five to eight years before the membrane, gasket, or board fails from humidity and sun exposure. A shaded, north-facing keypad on a property further inland can last ten to twelve. The lifespan gap is almost entirely environmental, not a defect in the part. Call (561) 725-8048 for an exact assessment, estimates are free.
Sometimes. If the issue is a corroded relay, a cracked solder joint, or a failed capacitor, we can rebuild the board on the bench and reinstall it, typically saving 30 to 50 percent off replacement cost. If the membrane or the plastic housing is compromised, the unit is done and replacement is cheaper than a patch job. Call (561) 725-8048 and we’ll give you a written finding before you commit to anything.
A standard wireless keypad replacement takes 45 minutes to an hour, including programming and testing. A CM-series intercom board replacement runs 90 minutes to two hours because we verify the wiring run and test every handset in the house before we leave. If you need it done today, call (561) 725-8048 and we’ll confirm a dispatch window.
We carry the 877MAX, 877LM, and the common CM-series intercom components on every truck. Cellular entry modules and some older vintage boards are ordered, but we can usually have them installed within three to five business days. We also stock compatible parts for Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing systems, so a mixed-brand driveway doesn’t mean multiple service providers. Call (561) 725-8048 and we’ll confirm what’s on the shelf.
