• You hear a metal-on-metal scrape during travel. A failing weld lets the frame shift slightly, so a bracket or corner now contacts the post or the track. The sound is the steel wearing itself down, and the loose movement is overloading the motor.
• Rust streaks run down from a weld joint. That’s water working its way through a micro-crack in the original weld. Once the rust streaking starts, the joint is already compromised internally, even if it still looks solid from six feet away.
• The gate jerks or binds right at the same spot every cycle. The operator is fighting a mechanical change, not an electrical one. A shifted weld changes the geometry of the gate’s travel path, and the Elite motor keeps pushing harder until a limit switch or a gear strips.
• A hinge bolt hole is now an oval, not a circle. The gate has been moving on a loose hinge long enough to wallow out the steel. That play means the fabrication is, at a minimum, hinge replacement, and often a reinforcement plate welded over the elongated hole.
