Linear Welding & Fabrication: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

When a Linear gate component cracks, shears, or tears loose from its mount, the fix is usually a welded repair or a fabricated replacement bracket, hinge, or brace. We stock common Linear-compatible steel and aluminum weldment parts on our trucks and fabricate custom pieces in our West Palm Beach shop, with most repairs running between $180 and $650 installed depending on the part and the amount of on-site welding required. The way most owners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, the opener strains, or a hinge pin snaps clean off the post and the gate swings into the driveway at an angle it was never meant to hold.

What they rarely know until we show them is that Linear gates fail at specific points under South Florida conditions. Salt air works on the weld seams first. The gate’s own weight works on the hinge barrels. And the constant open-close cycle, sometimes 40 or 50 times a day on a busy Palm Beach property, eventually fatigues the metal where the actuator arm bolts to the gate frame. We document every weld point we touch with photographs before and after, so you see exactly what was replaced and why.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Our welding and fabrication work covers the full range of Linear swing and slide gate operators still running in West Palm Beach, including the older APeX series, the LDO and LDCO linear actuator lines, and the MegaCode-equipped residential units. The fabricated parts we replace most often are the gate-to-operator mounting brackets, hinge plates, wheel carriage supports on slide gates, and the steel posts that hold the opener itself.

Identifying your Linear model before you call helps, but it isn’t required. Look for the silver data plate on the motor housing or control board cover. You’ll see a model number like APeX-5, LDO50, or SLR, followed by a serial number. If the plate is faded or gone, we can usually identify the unit by the arm style and the control board layout once we’re on site. For weldments specifically, we measure the bolt spacing, plate thickness, and the angle of the existing bracket rather than trusting the model number alone. Linear changed bracket geometry between production runs more than once, which is why an OEM replacement bracket ordered blind sometimes arrives and doesn’t fit the gate that’s been on the property for fifteen years.

When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket parts, our position is practical. Linear OEM weldments are well-made and we install them when the gate is recent and the part is available. But many aftermarket brackets and hinge assemblies, especially stainless steel versions made for coastal Florida, outlast the originals by years. We tell you which one we’d put on our own gate and quote both options in writing. One thing to know: Linear is owned by Nortek Control, and Vance Gate Repair West Palm Beach is an independent service provider, not an authorized Linear dealer or affiliate.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags visibly at the latch end. This almost always traces back to a worn or cracked hinge weld. The post side holds, the gate side drops, and the opener has to lift the gate’s full weight just to move it. That extra load shortens motor life fast.
  • The opener arm stutters or binds mid-cycle. When a mounting bracket loosens or tears, the actuator’s push-pull force gets directed at an angle. You’ll hear the motor labor and see the arm flex at the bracket. Every cycle worsens the tear until the arm rips free entirely.
  • Fresh rust staining runs down from a weld seam or bracket corner. On Linear gates near the Intracoastal or the ocean side of West Palm Beach, salt air attacks bare steel at the weld joints first. What looks like surface rust is often the first sign of a crack opening underneath.
  • The gate post moves when the gate stops. A gate that shudders against its stops transfers all that kinetic energy into the post base. Over time the post-to-footing weld or the anchor bolts fail, and now the entire operator mount is compromised.
  • You can see daylight through a bracket or hinge knuckle that used to sit flush. Metal fatigue on Linear pivot points doesn’t always crack loudly. Often a hairline fracture opens and the parts separate by a millimeter or two. If you can rock the gate by hand and hear or see the play, the weldment is done.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For welded repairs and fabricated Linear parts in West Palm Beach, most jobs land between $180 and $650 installed. A simple hinge re-weld with the gate off and re-hung runs on the lower end. A custom-fabricated gate-to-operator bracket, cut, drilled, and welded in our shop, then installed and aligned, runs higher. Slide gate carriage supports and post replacements sit in the middle, depending on whether we’re salvaging the existing post or setting a new one in concrete.

The written price you get before we start includes the part or fabricated piece, all on-site welding and grinding, primer and paint on the repaired area, re-hanging and alignment, and a full cycle test on the operator. We don’t quote labor by the hour and then settle up after. The number on the estimate is the number on the invoice. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1 and it applies to every weld job we do. The work itself is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails or the bracket shifts within a year, we make it right at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

We’ll be straight with you: welding a gate bracket is not a weekend project. The gate has to come off, the weld surface has to be ground clean, the repair has to hold under hundreds of pounds of load and daily cycling, and the gate has to go back on square. If you don’t weld regularly, you’re more likely to burn through the thin tube steel or leave a cold joint that cracks in six months. There’s also the electrical side: on a Linear operator, a misaligned bracket puts the motor under load it wasn’t designed for, and the next failure is often the control board, not the bracket.

What you can safely check is the hardware: tighten the bracket bolts with a wrench, look for fresh rust weeping from seams, and photograph what you find. If the play is in the hinge pin or the bracket itself, call us at (561) 725-8048. We’ll send a photo of the technician before arrival, give you the written price before any work starts, and document the repair with before-and-after photos so you can see what was actually done.
