BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

BFT keypad and intercom repair in West Palm Beach typically runs $185 to $480 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad membrane, the intercom handset, or the control board behind both. We carry BFT-compatible parts on the truck for most residential models, so a failed keypad or dead intercom is usually fixed the same day we arrive. Most owners discover the problem the hard way: the gate stops answering the code they’ve used for three years, or the intercom audio goes from crackly to silent and a delivery driver has to call from the street.

We’re an independent service company, not affiliated with BFT, which means we stock what actually fits and we tell you the part number before we install it. No brand pressure, no upsell to a new operator.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

BFT keypads and intercoms split into two families: the MITTO and RIGEL series keypads, and the CLONIX/PERSEO intercom panels used on condo and estate gates across Palm Beach County. The compatibility gotcha that catches most owners: a MITTO 2 keypad will not talk to a MITTO 4 receiver without a dip-switch change, and a RIGEL 5 keypad needs the BFT “Rolling Code” protocol enabled on the control board or it’ll work for a week and then drop.

Identifying the right part starts with the label. Open the keypad housing and look for the silver sticker with the model code: MITTO, RIGEL, CLONIX, or PERSEO followed by a number. We also measure the mounting screw spacing: BFT keypads use either 44mm or 60mm centers, and if the old holes don’t match the new part, we’ll need to drill and seal new ones. For intercom panels, match the wire count at the terminal block: PERSEO panels run five wires, CLONIX repairs run six. If you’re holding a bag of parts and can’t tell which is which, call us and we’ll walk you through the label reading while you’re at the panel.

On OEM versus aftermarket: BFT’s genuine keypads are weather-sealed better than most aftermarket equivalents, but the aftermarket membranes for the MITTO series are a sensible budget option if the keypad itself is sheltered by an awning or gate pillar. We’ll install either, but we’ll tell you straight if an aftermarket part is the wrong call for an exposed ocean-air location like a gate facing the Intracoastal.

Signs Your BFT Keypad Is Failing

Signs Your BFT Keypad Is Failing
  • Intermittent code acceptance. The keypad works half the time, usually when it’s cool or dry. BFT membranes lose conductivity as the carbon traces oxidize, especially in West Palm Beach’s salt-humidity air. The fix is a new membrane or a sealed keypad body, not a new battery.
  • Buttons require hard presses or stick. The silicone dome layer under the keys degrades over time. Once it splits, moisture gets behind the membrane and corrodes the contact points. This is a same-day membrane swap on most MITTO models.
  • No audio from the intercom handset or panel. The speaker driver in BFT intercoms sits behind a weather gasket that turns brittle in our UV and salt air. When audio dies, it’s usually the speaker or the audio board, and both are truck-stock repairs.
  • Gate stays open or won’t close after a code entry. The keypad is sending the signal, but the control board isn’t receiving it. That’s a receiver fuse or a relay on the BFT board, and it’s repairable without replacing the whole keypad.
  • The keypad lights up but the gate does nothing. This is the classic “lost its rolling code sync” symptom. The keypad’s internal code counter has fallen out of sync with the BFT control board, and it needs a reprogramming sequence, not a hardware replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the straight pricing for BFT keypad and intercom repair in West Palm Beach, parts and labor included:

  • BFT MITTO keypad membrane replacement: $185 to $240
  • BFT RIGEL keypad full replacement: $260 to $340
  • BFT intercom handset or speaker repair: $210 to $390
  • BFT control board relay or fuse repair: $280 to $480

The range depends on the model year and what we find when the panel comes open. A ten-year-old PERSEO with corroded board terminals will run higher than a five-year-old MITTO that just needs a fresh membrane. Every job includes the part, labor, and our written documentation. Under the Haven Standard, the price is written and handed to you before we pick up a tool, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year. We photograph what we removed, what we installed, and the final wiring state before we leave.

We also stock and service parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, so if your BFT keypad is fine but your operator was made by one of those brands, we can still handle the whole gate system in one visit.

What a West Palm Beach owner can safely check: whether the keypad has power (most BFT keypads run on a battery or low-voltage feed from the control board), whether the wiring at the back of the keypad is loose, and whether the intercom handset cord shows visible wear. These are visual checks with the power still on and the gate in manual mode. They’ll tell you if the problem is obvious.

Where DIY goes wrong is inside the BFT control board. The relay and receiver circuits carry low voltage, but the board itself sits next to the gate operator’s high-voltage supply wiring, and if you open the wrong panel with the gate powered you’re working next to 120V or 240V lines. It’s not worth a hospital visit for a $240 keypad. And honestly, the rolling code reprogramming sequences are easy to get wrong: one missed step and you’re back to a dead keypad with a frustrated family standing on the driveway. Our technicians carry the BFT programming cheat sheets and do this daily.
